Texas A&M Aggies Football Details

The Aggies have won three national championships in their program’s history, but the most recent of those titles came back in 1939. It has been quite the drought for Texas A&M, but head coach Kevin Sumlin is on to something down in College Station. The Aggies have had some of the most talented players in the nation in recent years, as they have sent the likes of Johnny Manziel and Myles Garrett to the NFL as first round picks since 2014. Garrett was the first overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, and Sumlin’s pipeline to the league appears to just be getting started.

The stud on this year’s Aggies team is wide receiver Christian Kirk. Last season, Kirk caught 83 passes for 928 yards and nine touchdowns for Texas A&M. That was after a freshman campaign that saw him haul in 80 receptions for 1,009 yards and seven touchdowns. Kirk’s biggest asset is his speed, and that allows him to make defenders miss in open space. Some people have compared his running ability to that of Reggie Bush, which is quite the compliment. It’s not hard to picture Kirk winning a Heisman Trophy in the near future, and he should help A&M make a statement come bowl season. The running game is also going to be rather electric for the Aggies this season. Trayveon Williams is one of the guys that’ll help this team eat up yards on the ground, as he rushed for 1,057 yards and eight scores as a freshman last year. Keith Ford will also see plenty of touches, and he rushed for 669 yards and six touchdowns a year ago. This offense is ready to keep scoring at a ridiculous rate, and the defense should be improved in its second year under defensive coordinator John Chavis. Chavis is one of the most well-respected minds in the country, and he is best known for his work at LSU.
